Riley's bed

Week one!

Back Back

Nashon our carpenter makes his first cut.
What you see here is the first leg of the bed.

Friday 26th April 2002

We have cut the pieces roughly into the shape and size we want.
In the coming months all the pieces will be planned down by hand. I have also been thinking of making the headboard adjustable. I'll think about it.

There are some surprises coming with the posts which are to be 12 inches x 12 inches.
I have an incredible carver here who is going to put some "Africa" into your dreams.

The bottom cross beam is currently 8"x8". It will probably finish up around 6" or so. Six inches enough Riley?

The headboard above the bottom beam will have a 3" gap  .
Don't want to loose our pillows do we!
It will obviously end up higher than seen here.

There will also be a gap of the same between the legs and the headboard.
Just so you can still get a rope around the leg.

As you can see the cross members are on the floor.
I will put them up on old beer crates and get an idea of the height the bed should be.

Sorry about the photography. We are making this bed in the old chicken house at the back of our property. It was the only place we could fit it in.

This photo actually gives you an idea of the colour you can expect from the headboard. It really is a deep red.
Wait till you see it planned and sanded and polished!

As I progress with this project I will install some good lights and take some better pictures.
